Privacy Policy

Senior Sentry. Last updated October 2, 2026.

This policy describes the Senior Sentry Chrome extension, offered by Emjay Design Lab. It applies to the extension running in your Chrome profile.

The short version

Senior Sentry keeps its information on this computer. It has no account. It does not send your lists, bookmarks, or browsing to Emjay Design Lab. It does not sell information. It does not show ads.

What the extension is for

Senior Sentry gives an older adult a home screen of large bookmarks. A caregiver, using a PIN-locked console on the same computer, chooses which sites open quietly, which sites never open, and what happens when a new site is opened. Chrome’s own Safe Browsing still runs. This extension does not replace it.

Information stored on this computer

The extension saves these items in Chrome’s local storage for this profile:

  • Approved site names and blocked site names.
  • Home-screen bookmarks: a name and a web address. Also which bookmarks are favorites, the tile size, the circle color, and the display theme.
  • The protection choice: warn on new sites, or only approved sites.
  • An activity list of up to 100 recent events. An event is a warning, a block, a site opened until Chrome closes, or a request for the caregiver to approve a site. Each event can include the full web address and the time. A visit to a site that is already approved is not added to this list. The caregiver can clear the list.
  • Approval requests waiting for the caregiver, up to 50. Each one includes the site address and the time.
  • The caregiver PIN, saved as a salted hash. The PIN itself is not saved as readable text. The hash only lets the console check the PIN. It does not encrypt the other lists.

Until you close Chrome, the extension also remembers sites someone chose to open for this browser session, and the latest warning details for an open tab. Those details are dropped when Chrome closes.

Web addresses

When a page starts to open, the extension looks at that address on this computer. It uses the address to allow an approved site, warn on a new site, or stop a blocked site. The address of an approved visit is not written into the activity list. The address of a warning, a block, a temporary open, or an approval request can be written into the lists above. An address can contain words from a search or a link.

Words on a page

On ordinary http and https pages, the extension reads a portion of the visible words. It looks only for a few specific scam phrases, such as a locked-computer warning, a fake tech-support phone number, a gift-card payment demand, or a push to install remote-access software. The check happens on this computer. The page text is not saved and is not sent to Emjay Design Lab. If a phrase matches, a red note appears on that page.

The extension does not read what you type into a box, such as a password. It does not collect form entries.

Chrome bookmarks

Chrome bookmarks are read only when the caregiver clicks Import from Chrome bookmarks. The extension then lists websites from this Chrome profile so the caregiver can pick some for the home screen. It does not change Chrome’s own bookmarks. The chosen names and addresses are saved with the other home-screen bookmarks on this computer. They are not uploaded.

What this extension does not do

  • It does not ask you to create a Senior Sentry account.
  • It does not include advertising or analytics.
  • It does not download a threat list.
  • It does not sell, rent, or share information with Emjay Design Lab or with a service run for this extension.
  • It does not use the information for any purpose other than the home screen, the caregiver lists, the warning, and the scam note described above.

Chrome and the sites you open

Chrome, Google Safe Browsing, and each website you open have their own policies. Senior Sentry does not control them. A website you open can still receive the visit the way it would in Chrome without this extension.

Who can see the stored information

The lists stay in this Chrome profile. Anyone who can use that profile and knows how to open Chrome’s extension storage can read them. The PIN locks the Admin Console only. It does not stop someone from turning the extension off at chrome://extensions. On a shared computer, a separate Chrome profile for the older adult is the practical boundary.

How long it stays

  • Settings, bookmarks, and site lists stay until the caregiver changes them or the extension is removed.
  • The activity list keeps the newest 100 events until the caregiver clears it or the extension is removed.
  • Approval requests keep the newest 50 until they are handled or the extension is removed.
  • Session choices last until Chrome closes.
  • Removing Senior Sentry from Chrome removes the information it stored in that profile.

Children

Senior Sentry is a tool for families caring for an older adult. It is not directed at children under 13, and Emjay Design Lab does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will change, and the updated policy will be included with the extension. If a future version sends information off this computer, this policy will say so before that version is offered.
